Declaring A New State
January 20, 1921: The Republic of Turkey was declared from the remnants of the Ottoman Empire, as noted by SurvivalBlog.
I read that and honed in on the word declare, as new nations of government entities usually have to be declared. No one just gives them to you, not even if you ask nicely.
You have to declare it, and by that implying that for someone to defy your claim they have to fight you. If they don’t, then congrats, you are now a sovereign national government.
There is of course that discrepency of an ousted government that never cedes its old claim, a few of those have existed. Poland had one from the end of the war until 1990. The Republic Of China Taiwan is also still technically sovereign over mainland CCP China. I wouldn’t mind them making that a reality once again. It would admittedly be a less-crap option than the current regime that governs the rat people who infest that mainland.
