Sailing Through The Panic

The herd animals of Australia are either running around making panicked squealing noises or they’ve tuned into as many online distractions as possible to hide from reality.

The reality is: It looks like our logistical supply chain is about to fail.

Subsidies, fuel-tax cuts, free public transport, implorations to work-from-home again and avoid non-essential trips, consume less, don’t buy more than you need….all this comes across as nervous band-aid solutions thrown around by people who failed to plan for this occurance. I have a feeling some of these implementations may need to be permanent just to keep things running as this situation will not likely be resolved quickly.

I have my own prejudices on whether the actions in the Middle East were the right ones, And I beleive they were because I’m right-wing and hate left-wingers as a general rule, but fundamentally, it’s not really a very relevant question to ask right now.

Because we shouldn’t be dependant on a place on the other side of the world called the Strait of Hormuz for the food, water, heat and shelter that should be procurable locally. We are experiencing a failure of our civic design. It’s hard to get a proper helpful opinion out there right now, but i found one over at XYZ. A site I’ve long-read regularly even if I don’t subscribe to the overarching ethno-nationalism and anti-semitism. So to that end I have to commend Dr David Hilton for putting this in local perspective here, at least as it pertains to those of us who live on the landmass known as Australia. I’m not even sure if we can call it a nation right now as that implies some sort of independence, social cohesion and legitimacy vested in our rulers, none of which we really have in any great supply right now…. kind of like the fuel. Funny that.

This is one of those times that even calls the whole logic of continued national government into question. And reminds you that all human relationships must start on a basis of common trust and goodwill. Competition is fine. I think a bit of sporting mockery is also fine just to keep us on our toes and allow well-meaning criticism to keep us honest. Genuine anomisity much less so. Tolerance is like the mortar that keeps people together despite some differences and annoyances.

If you’ve read the Fourth Turning books you know this is just part of the ongoing grand cycle of history.

A lot of people don’t trust their own government, and don’t even trust their local representatives. They don’t trust their police. They don’t trust a lot of things.

We are experiencing a widespread breakdown of trust that we are going to have to slowly rebuild. The good news is that this has been happening for a while.

Those of us who survive this and wish to keep living here might want to discuss not just better fuel storage plans in the future, but a civic design that makes us more locally resilient and less dependent on long-and-tenuous supply chains to procure the goods and services we need to live.

You can see why some people just call it quits on city/town life and go live in the wilderness.

She’ll be right mate. Be a bit optimistic. Chillax, she’ll all be right.

Also, who knows, maybe alot the dumber ones who’ve made things so hard will accidentally extinguish themselves.
