On This Day (Meaning Yesterday)

J Edgar Hoover and Charles Arthur “Pretty Boy” Floyd. Hard times, hard men and a no-bs approach to life.

And there he is, a dashing young fellow, who was all of just 30 years of age when his time ran out.

According to wikipedia, he bears yet another example of an outlaw who had the sympathy of the public, this during the time of the Great Depression.

From his wiki:

He was seen positively by the public because, during robberies, he burned mortgage documents, freeing many people from their debts.

Eventually the FBI got him, then known as the BOI.

One of his “accolades” was a stint as “Public Enemy #1” as declared by J Edgar Hoover.

He was of the same vintage as John Dillinger, Machine Gun Kelly and Babyface Nelson, other people whom I’ve only just heard of as being actual people in a historical context, if you want to bother looking them up.

Suddenly alot of rap references seem to make more sense.

Thankyou to survivalblog for the tip and for much inspiration for many years now. They are celebrating a milestone: 20 years this year.

edit 3/12/2025:

I’m re-adding back in some musical deletes, to correct the record that I myself corrected. This was after-all a post for Halloween month. I should’ve been more respectful of my own past rather than hasty in my self-depreciation. This is an italo disco song I like by Cherook called Licanthrope. A Licanthrope is a werewolf. I think it a good song, and eminently suitable for this post and those around it. Please listen to it. I will defend it unto my dying day. I am a nerd.
