It’s a sunny day here at the fallen-edge of the world.

The sky is blue and the day is crisp. Pleasant even.

No one is out and about, no one is spending any money, no one is interacting with anyone, for all I know most of the human population perished last night. Of course the landlords and utility companies still want their bills paid.

It’s a sunny day and we are in a failing society.

Sunny.

Cheerio.

It’s my birthday and I turn 38 soon. Blessed art thou, oh blackened soul.

ART

Certain posters on 4chan and the like express a longing for traditional western art. This is great, but I hope these guys realise that the past can never be recreated exactly as it was. This has an upside too. Contemporary Art should speak to contemporary audiences. A traditional throwback is fine, but if its too puritanical it become archaic elitist wank in its own right.

Also, much like the revival of manufacturing in what we once called the west, you can’t just switch this stuff off and on like the flick of a switch. A craft done well takes years of study and practice. But all the knowledge is out there if you want it.

THE TUNNEL

They say the west-gate tunnel will be open soon. Years of traffic congestion and the crushing of a city’s spirit for this corrupt boondoggle. They cancelled a previous contract that would have built a cheaper and more practical tunnel through the inner north. I would’ve preferred that just because it would’ve annoyed the greenie postcodes so much. But alas. Maybe Karma will give them their due.

SEASONS

As the weather warms up I make an effort to chuck seafood back on the menu at home. Salmon, Raw Tuna, Basa, Barramundi, Snapper (it is Snapper season in Victoria), Mussels, prawns, scallops, and numerous other delicacies found in the briny deep. Fruits of The Sea as the frogs call it.

In recent times I’ve gotten into raw tuna, cut up on a board and enjoyed with pickled ginger, wasabi and … in lieu of soy sauce, Maggi seasoning…. or a knockoff thereof…. Yes, the very same that is enjoyed as a condiment on the traditional Polish dining table. Hear me out: it works. It is a wheat-derived black sauce, basically fermented the same way that soy sauce is. It’s basically the same thing. Maggi Seasoning was the old Warsaw Pact attempt at making an oriental style soy sauce and is one of the more interesting creations of the Communist era. It retains a cult following for Polaks everywhere.

I don’t know if anyone even reads any of this. I could probably write anything here. I should keep it somewhat civil. Just so people know there is stuff i type and delete at times.

MUSIC

Stoner Doom:

I’ve always been a fan of this stuff. SInce I got bitten by the QOTSA bug back in yr 10/2002.

You don’t need to be on drugs to enjoy it. I dont do any and i’ve found it’s great Monday listening.

Stoned Jesus - Black Woods

Recently Ozzy Osbourne died. I’m not sure if I mentioned it in a previous post, but I was a big fan going back to when I was 15/16. Paranoid was one of the few songs I could successfully learn on guitar. I mean, it’s bloody easy and helped by the fact that Tony Iommi wrote his riffs to be playable as a man with two missing fingers.

There are so many good Sabbath songs, and Ozzy’s solo work was great too. One of the more obscure trivia tidbits is that there was a Black Sabbath cartoon that had a brief run in the 70s. It looks like Scooby-Doo Hanna-Barbera stuff. By all accounts (ie the YT comments) it IS real and aired on daytime TV. It’s 2:50mins of your life if you care to watch it. Though I’ll be the first to admit that if you sit through all of it you might feel a bit robbed of your time. You’ve been warned.

This longer animation is great if you want a chilled 73min tour of their sonic world with a pretty suitable graphic accompanyment.

But that’s not all.

Synthwave is also on the menu for me these days. Quixotic is one such fellow (fellete?) i like. The Arnie tribute they did is a good place to start. Go from there if you like it. Bail and run if you don’t.
