Passing The Winter Solistice
I consider it something to celebrate.
I’m getting over winters. I have resolved to one day become one of those people who take off to Queensland for the cold months, if I ever attain that level of wealth in my life. Or just go live somewhere warmer permanently.
I don’t know how East Europeans and Northern Europeans ended up that far up in the globe, I imagine the real estate must’ve been cheaper up there millennia ago. Or perhaps they migrated there in a warm spell and got hit by a snap back to an ice age. But i’ll let the anthropologists and geneticists debate it.
I’m pleased to report that I marked the occasion with a bonfire this year with friends. Its a good thing to have in the middle of winter in Victoria, as there is no Christmas or other major holiday to break up the grey bleakness of winter, and unless you can afford a trip to the mountains, no snow to have fun in. No snowmen, no ice-hockey, no snowballs, no scenic white blanket over everything. Just rain and grey skies over an already very ugly city.
Getting through this year after year takes character.
